Sand dunes (Pachies Ammoudies) of Lemnos island, Greece

Sand dunes or  Pachies Ammoudies or Amdis (local greek name)   of Lemnos are in the northwest side of this island and in a distance of 2km away from Gomati beach and 4km away from the traditional village Katalakko. It is an impressive landscape with distinctive sandy hills, which make it look like a real desert. Also there are some oil trees, osier, thyme and lilies around it, which offer a different sense in this dry landscape. It is important to add that the sand dunes are originated by the process of  land's erosion and by the strong winds blowing in the island. You can go and visit this landscape by heading from Myrina to village Katalakko and prior it you will see a sign, which shows the street for Sand dunes and Gomati beach. You will follow the street until a junction, where you should turn left. Subsequently you have to go on the new street passing two small streams and you should turn left after 200 m from the last stream (there is a sign, which indicates the Sand dunes or Pachies Ammoudies) and you will reach to your destination. The half street from Katalakkos to Sand dunes is in good condition, but the rest half street is dirt road. In the entrance there are two benches in a shady place with some information about this magnificent landscape. It would be a good idea to have sports shoes so as to enjoy the walking onto the hot sand and cool water, as the temperature is very high the summer months.
